With soccer coursing through her veins, you would assume Sarah Noonan has some noteworthy running skills.
Noonan showed just how much by winning the women’s 20-29 age division in a time of 24:20 at the Running Bear 5-K race last weekend in Stratton in conjunction with Morley’s centennial celebrations.
The Fort Frances resident, preparing to enter her second season with the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs women’s soccer squad this fall, pulled away from those in her age group in the co-ed, all-ages event which included eight participants from here.
Jessica Cousineau placed third in the under-19 girls’ category with a clocking of 26:40 while Ann McCoy also had a third-place result in the 30-39 women’s group.
Other local female entrants, whose placings were not available as of press time, included Megan Canfield in the under-19 division (29:12); Nicky Johnson in the 20-29 category (35:30); Chrissy Visser in the 30-30 group (38:27); and Mary-Beth Tkachuk in the 40-49 bracket (38:08).
The lone male rep from Fort Frances was Bob Tkachuk, who recorded a time of 25:24 to take fourth place in his age category.
The next major race involving area runners is a 10-km run in Embarrass, Mn. on Aug. 23. Tkachuk, Megan Ross, and Connee Badiuk also are planning to enter the Twin Cities Marathon in Minneapolis-St. Paul on Oct. 5.
