Everything went as expected in Rainy River District Fastball League playoff action last night as all four favourites won their games.
First, the top-seeded Barwick Knights stumped No. 9 Big Island 12-2.
Brad Wakefield went deep to pace the Knights, with J.J. Landry earning the win.
Matt Comegan was tagged for the loss.
Barwick now will face fifth-seeded Rainy River next week while Big Island will fight for their playoff lives against the No. 4 Big Grassy Braves.
The Braves stayed alive by getting past Northwest Bay 10-6 last night.
Travis Tom picked up the victory over Sean Councillor, whose team was eliminated from further post-season contention with the loss.
Elsewhere, the No. 2 Big Grassy Lightning dumped seventh-seeded Stratton 8-1.
Bill Copenace belted a homer to provide some offence for pitcher Jeff Morrison.
Guy Arpin shouldered the loss.
The Lightning next will meet No. 3 Sight & Sound while Stratton will square off against No. 6 Sabaskong.
The Cubs avoided elimination last night as No. 10 Manitou forfeited its second-straight game to drop out of the playoffs.
Before playoff action resumes, the RRDFL will hold its annual all-star game this Tuesday (Aug. 3) at 7 p.m. in Stratton.
