New loop planned for T. Bay marathon

Press Release

The board of directors of the Thunder Bay Marathon-Miles with the Giant are pleased to announce the third-annual event on Sept. 23 will feature a new 26.2-mile single loop marathon course.
“We’ve had great feedback on the course and the event as a whole, but we’ve always had a single-loop, 26.2-mile course as our goal since the inception of the event,” said president Barry Streib.
“So after over a year of work and planning with the city, we are pleased to introduce our new single loop, 26.2-mile race course for the 2012 event.
“We are working closely with Athletics Canada to have our marathon course certified as a Boston qualifier,” he added.
Individuals can register their participation in the marathon, half-marathon, marathon-relay (teams of five), 10K, or 5K races at www.thunderbaymarathon.com
Participants also have the option to raise pledges for their favourite charity through the “Run for a Reason” charity pledge program by simply choosing a charity during the registration process.
The participating charities are Camp Quality, the Easter Seals Society, Epilepsy Ontario, Heart & Stroke Foundation, and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.
Sponsors and volunteers are still needed to make the Thunder Bay Marathon-Miles with the Giant a huge success.
