Unless the event is brought back to life, Jenna Enge will be one of four people who will be defending national champions for the rest of their days.
The Devlin native, playing second, helped Northern Ontario capture the 2015 Canadian Postal Employees Curling Classic in Winnipeg with a 9-4 win over Nova Scotia on Friday.
Northern Ontario, skipped by Thunder Bay-based Ron Rosengren, only led 4-3 after five ends.
But then scored a deuce in the sixth, then stole one in the seventh to go up 7-3.
Nova Scotia got one back in the eighth, but then shook hands after Northern Ontario scored a deuce in the ninth.
It was announced before the event started that this year’s 49th edition of the Classic would be the last.
Rosengren fulfilled his quest to tie his father, Don, with a record seventh title at the Classic.
Northern Ontario went 10-0 during the preliminary round to finish first in the standings.
Then they beat Saskatchewan 7-5 on Thursday in the 1 vs. 2 Page playoff game to advance to the final.
