Northern Ontario is now one win away from national glory.
The Ron Rosengren-skipped rink from Thunder Bay, with Devlin native Jenna Enge playing second, beat Saskatchewan 7-5 in the 1 vs. 2 Page playoff game yesterday at the 2015 Canadian Postal Employees Curling Classic in Winnipeg.
That assured them a spot in this afternoon’s final against the winner of this morning’s semi-final between Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia, which beat Ontario 8-3 in the 3 vs. 4 playoff match-up.
Northern Ontario finished the preliminary round in first place with a perfect 10-0 record after downing Quebec 7-6 earlier yesterday.
Against Saskatchewan, the rink scored a deuce in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie, then stole a pair in the seventh to lead 6-2.
Saskatchewan pulled within one with a three-ender in the ninth.
But Rosengren notched a single in the 10th to seal the victory.
This will be the last edition of the Classic after a 49-year run.
Rosengren is trying to match his father, Don, for the most titles ever with seven if he captures this year’s event.
