Peggy Taylor’s Kenora-based rink, representing Northern Ontario, got off to a 1-2 start at the Canadian senior women’s curling championship in Edmonton.
The rink, which features Fort Frances resident Lisa Penner playing third, was routed 13-1 in six ends by two-time women’s world champion Colleen Jones of Nova Scotia in their first game Saturday.
Taylor then fell 7-1 in six ends yesterday to Nancy Inglis of Saskatchewan.
But Northern Ontario bounced back last night with a 13-0 romp over Beverly Ford (Nunavut).
Going into play today, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan led Pool ‘A’ with 4-0 records.
Northern Ontario, meanwhile, was in a four-way logjam for third with New Brunswick, the Northwest Territories, and Quebec.
Nunavut was last at 0-4.
The top four in each pool after the round-robin advance to the championship bracket that begins Wednesday.
That makes this afternoon’s lone game for Taylor against Debbie Moss (Northwest Territories) a huge match-up for both teams as they jockey for a playoff berth.
