Mustanga play in atom tournament

The local Sunset Country Ford Mustangs Atom ‘AA’ team also took part in the Elks Tom Thumb Atom hockey tournament in Thunder Bay last weekend, coming home with a 1-1-2 record.
The Mustangs opened action Friday morning with a 6-1 loss to the Marathon Mercs, with Dan Chapman (Brian Glavish/Kyle Herr) netting their lone goal in the second period.
In their second game Friday evening, the Mustangs got a goal from Tyler Harris (unassisted) with 2:29 to play to salvage a 5-5 tie with the Elks 82’s.
The Elks had jumped out to a 1-0 lead. But after Chapman (Glavish) had knotted the score just over two minutes later, the Elks regained their one-goal cushion heading into the first intermission.
The Mustangs surged out to a 3-2 lead in the second on goals by Kevin Bobczynski (Sampson) and Andrew Easton but the Elks took command early in the third, netting a pair of goals to go up 4-3.
After the Mustangs drew even on Herr’s goal (unassisted), the Elks once again went up by one–setting the stage for Harris’ heroics in the final minutes.
The Mustangs scored all three of their goals in the second period Saturday afternoon en route to a 3-1 victory over the Westfort Rangers.
Trailing 1-0, Easton, Harris, and Sampson netted unanswered goals to ice the victory. Assists went to Harris, Steve Boileau, Easton, and Taylor Jorgenson.
Then the Mustangs wrapped up play that evening with a 3-3 draw against the West End Bruins, getting all three goals from Easton, including the tying one with just over a minute to go.
Boileau and George Ossachuk picked up assists.
