Getting pounded hurts—but pounding those who hurt you does wonders for the spirit.
A week after taking it on the chin in their NorWOSSA regular-season opener in Dryden, the Muskie senior boys’ basketball team paid back the Eagles with a convincing 70-48 triumph in Fort High’s home-opener Tuesday.
Caleb McIntosh shredded the Eagles for a game-high 43 points to lead the Muskies, who had lost 73-46 there seven days earlier but brought a much more well-rounded game to hand Dryden (2-1) its first loss.
Connor Bujold added 11 points while Cole Edwards drained two three-pointers in the fourth quarter to finish with six.
In junior boys’ action, the Muskies improved to 2-0 with a 33-26 win over visiting Dryden (0-3).
Jacob Empey had a game-high 11 points for Fort High, Ian Jodoin chipped in with six, and Joey Angus added five.
On the volleyball battleground, the Muskie junior girls avenged a straight-sets loss in Dryden the previous week by taking a 3-1 decision (25-22, 25-20, 21-25, and 25-13) to even their record at 1-1.
The Eagles dropped to 2-1 with the loss.
The senior girls, meanwhile, almost made it a Muskie sweep before falling by a narrow 3-2 margin in their best-of-five battle.
Fort High (0-2) took the first set 25-16 before the Eagles (3-0) won the next two 25-14 and 25-17.
The Muskies responded with a 25-17 victory in the fourth set, but never grabbed the lead in the decisive fifth set before falling 15-13.
All four were in Kenora today to face the Broncos in their last action before the Christmas break.
