Muskies win three games in Kenora

Another NorWOSSA season officially is underway and it was an impressive start for the Muskie court sport teams.
Three of the four squads came away with wins in the season-opener on Tuesday against the host Kenora Broncos.
In girls’ basketball action, the juniors dumped the Broncos 26-14.
Tatum Glowasky scored a team-high 10 points while Anna Gagne chipped in seven.
Sydney Anderson, Grace Smith, Ayiana Gagne, and Joyce Wu each scored two points while Emma Yerxa added a single.
The Muskie seniors rolled to a 52-17 rout of the Broncos on the back of Jamie Spencer’s 11-point performance.
Keisha DeBungie chipped in with seven points, while Grace Petsnick, Rachel Anderson, Simone Payne, and Alina Eldridge each netted six.
Janissa Judson notched four points while Aurora Hutton, Joanna Empey, and Bella Ward each scored a basket.
In boys’ volleyball action, meanwhile, the juniors started the season in impressive fashion with a 3-0 sweep of the host Broncos.
The set scores were 25-8, 25-21, and 25-13.
The Muskie seniors were the lone squad to come away without a win, however, losing 2-1 to Kenora.
Set scores were 22-25, 15-25, and 25-19 in that one.
The junior hoopsters next will be in action at a one-day tournament hosted by the Dryden Eagles tomorrow.
The Muskies are slated to face each of the Broncos, Eagles, Sioux Lookout Warriors, and Hammarskjold Vikings (Thunder Bay) at the tourney.
All four Muskie court sport teams then will resume NorWOSSA action on Tuesday (Sept. 24) when they host the Warriors in their home-openers at Fort High.
The senior girls’ basketball and junior boys’ volleyball games will start at 4 p.m., with the junior girls’ basketball and senior boys’ volleyball contests to follow at 5:30.
