It was almost a perfect day for the Muskie court teams Tuesday against the visiting Dryden Eagles.
Michael Vanderaa had 14 points as the junior boys’ basketball team routed the Eagles 71-26 to improve to 1-1 in NorWOSSA play.
Meanwhile, the senior boys dropped to 1-1 on the season following a tough 99-73 loss to Dryden.
Kobi Ward and Aaron Bujold led the Muskies’ offence with 19 points apiece.
In girls’ volleyball action, the junior Muskies improved to 2-0 after downing Dryden in four sets (25-27, 25-8, 25-19, and 25-7).
The senior squad also prevailed in four sets (25-19, 23-25, 25-19, and 25-18) to sit at 1-1 on the young season.
The seniors were coming off a silver-medal showing at a 12-team tournament held Friday and Saturday in Dryden.
The Muskies finished round-robin play in second place with a 3-2 record, then swept the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints’ ‘B’ squad in two-straight sets in their first playoff match.
Then they swept the Westgate Tigers (Thunder Bay) to set up a gold-medal showdown against the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints’ ‘A’ squad.
But the black-and-gold fell short in that one, losing in straight sets to settle for silver.
All four Muskie teams were back in NorWOSSA action today against the visiting Kenora Broncos.
