Muskies win over Red Lake

The Muskie boys’ and girls’ hockey teams will wrap up the NorWOSSA regular season tonight in Kenora.
Regardless of what happens tonight, the second-place Muskie boys will face the third-place Broncos in the best-of-three NorWOSSA semi-finals, which opens this Friday at the Ice for Kids Arena.
Game 2 goes Sunday in Kenora, with Game 3, if necessary, back here next Tuesday night (March 1).
First-place Dryden will meet fourth-place Red Lake in the other semi-final showdown.
The Muskie boys are coming off a dominating 10-1 win over the Red Lake Rams up there Friday night.
Lucas Romaniuk led the onslaught with a hat trick while Tyler Pocock had a pair of goals. Brett Meyers, Tyler Miller, Andrew Easton, Brian Vargas, and David Pierce added singles.
Brock Benjamin (two), Miller (two), Alex McQuarrie, Jacob Esselink, Jordan Bale, Tyson Romyn, Steven Boileau, Vargas, Romaniuk, and Meyers were credited with assists.
Meanwhile, the Muskie girls also were in Red Lake on Friday night for an exhibition game (the Rams are not part of NorWOSSA) and skated away with a 6-2 win.
Sarah O’Sullivan, Francine McCabe, Hannah Firth, Courtney Reutzal, Katie McTavish, and Rebecca Witherspoon all scored for the black-and-gold, with Mackenzie Caul, Jessica Barker, Cortney Caldwell, Reutzal, and Firth drawing assists.
Regardless of the outcome of tonight’s regular-season finale in Kenora, the third-place Muskies will meet the second-place Eagles in the best-of-three NorWOSSA semi-final.
That series opens Friday in Dryden, with game two set for Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
Game 3, if necessary, will be back in Dryden on Tuesday night.
The winner will advance to meet the first-place Kenora Broncos in the NorWOSSA final.
