It won’t be just memories that the Muskie boys’ curling squad takes home from their appearance at the all-Ontario championships in St. Thomas.
Skip Adam Bolen and his 12th-ranked team of third Brendon Loney, second Jason Pattison, and leads Joey Wensley and David Kaun trounced 17th-ranked Erindale Secondary School (Mississauga) 7-2 yesterday afternoon to finish round-robin play with a 1-3 record.
That wasn’t enough, however, for them to advance to the quarter-finals as only the top two rinks from each of the four pools qualified for the playoffs.
The Muskies—playing in Pool ‘D’—had opened action Wednesday with a pair of losses—falling 7-6 in an extra-end to fifth-ranked Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes and then 7-2 to 13th-ranked Ancaster.
The black-and-gold lost 8-4 to Markville (Markham) yesterday morning to eliminate them from playoff contention.
The Bolen rink was the first Muskie squad to qualify for the all-Ontarios since Bill Crewson skipped the boys’ team to a silver medal in Midland in 1998.
