The Muskie boys’ hockey team cruised to a 7-1 win over Transcona in their opening game of the Genesis Hospitality tournament in Brandon, Man. last night.
The black-and-gold are in Pool 1 with Transcona and Birtle, who they were scheduled to play at 4 p.m. today.
The top two teams from each of the eight pools advance to the playoff round, which gets underway tomorrow.
The number-one seeds will earn a bye straight through to the semi-finals while the number-two seeds will square off in quarter-final action.
The Muskies’ next home game is an exhibition contest against Ely this coming Tuesday (Dec. 5) at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.

Meanwhile, the Muskie girls’ hockey team is set to compete at a tournament in Dryden this weekend against the host Eagles, Kenora Broncos, and Balmoral Hall Blazers (Winnipeg).
The Muskies’ opened play against the Blazers at noon today, then will square off against the Broncos at 6 p.m.
They play their final round-robin game tomorrow at 9 a.m. against the Eagles.
The bronze-medal game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. tomorrow, followed by the gold-medal one at 2:30 p.m.
The Muskies resume NorWOSSA action this coming Tuesday (Dec. 5) when they return to Dryden to take on the Eagles.
The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
