Muskies trounce T’wolves

You’d have to figure the goal judges at the Ely Ice Arena developed some sore thumbs Tuesday night.
After all, they had to flash the red light a dozen times as the Muskie boys bombed the host Timberwolves 12-0 in exhibition action.
Brendan Cawston exploded for five goals while Devon Ball, Mike Jourdain, Ryan Shortreed, Donovan Cousineau, Cody McCool, Ryan McDowall, and Robbie Rea added singles.
Long-time assistant coach Ken Christiansen said the black-and-gold wore down an overmatched home team as the game progressed.
“We moved the puck around really well, and kept the pressure on, and it just seemed to demoralize them,” he noted. “They didn’t have much, you know.
“They only had 11 shots on our net, but we played a strong game,” he added.
The Muskies scored twice in the first period, eight times in the second, and then added two more goals in the third.
The squad next heads to Brandon, Man. for a tournament beginning tonight. Fort High won bronze there last year, beating the Vincent Massey Trojans 5-2 after losing to Westwood in the semi-finals.
“That’s always a good tournament with a lot of strong teams,” Christiansen noted.
The Muskies resume NorWOSSA action this coming Tuesday (Dec. 16) in Kenora, where they will look to improve their 5-1 league record.
