With the regular season winding down, the Muskie boys’ hockey team will take to the ice here this weekend against an opponent they faced to the start the campaign.
The Thunder Bay Midget ‘AAA’ Kings will be in town for exhibition games tomorrow (Saturday) at 7 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena and again Sunday at 1 p.m. in the ’52 Canadians Arena.
In their previous clash, which occurred in the beginning of November, the Muskies stumbled in both games in Thunder Bay by scores of 5-4 and 4-2.
The black-and-gold remain in second place in the four-team NorWOSSA league with a 8-4-0-1 mark, two games behind the front-running Dryden Eagles (10-1-1-1).
The Kenora Broncos, who the Muskies host this coming Tuesday night (Feb. 1), are in third place (4-7-1-1), followed by the Red Lake Rams (3-10-0-0).
The Muskies still have two more games left against the Eagles before their last regular-season game, which will take place in Kenora on Feb. 21.
The team also will compete in the annual John Taylor tournament in Winnipeg next weekend.
Meanwhile, the Muskie girls’ hockey team also will be in exhibition action here tomorrow (Saturday) when they host Silver Bay at 2 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena..
The black-and-gold have shone in exhibition play against Minnesota squads this season, winning most of their games (including a bronze medal in the annual Schwan Cup in Minneapolis), but are still winless in NorWOSSA action.
The Kenora Broncos lead the pack with a perfect 9-0 record while Dryden is in second at 4-5, followed by the Muskies (0-9).
The girls will resume NorWOSSA action here Tuesday night (Feb. 1) against the first-place Broncos.
