Muskies thumped by Falls Broncos

It was a tough way to end a tough week.
The Muskie boys’ hockey team dropped a 8-0 decision to the visiting International Falls Broncos in exhibition action last night.
The Broncos set the tone in the first period, outshooting the Muskies 17-2 and grabbing a 3-0 lead off goals by Ben Gordon, Tom Biondich, and Andrew Dault.
Ross Johnson, Jamie Steele, and Jake Kennedy scored in the second period. Biondich and Tyler Kosta added rounded out the scoring in the third.
Fort High goalie Matthew Gamsby unofficially faced 46 shots while his counterpart, Jared Baldwin, earned the shutout.
The Muskies sport a 1-2 record in NorWOSSA play after a weekend split in Sioux Lookout last week, winning 6-1 on Friday night but losing 7-4 on Saturday afternoon.
That came on the heels of their season-opening 4-1 loss to the Kenora Broncos last Tuesday—which snapped the Muskies’ incredible league undefeated streak that had stretched for two-and-a-half seasons.
But the slow start is something head coach Glen Edwards and assistant coach Ken Christiansen envisioned when the final roster of these young players was made.
“I knew we’d have trouble at the start of the year. You don’t go into this early season with so many rookies and expect to continue on as we did last year,” he said.
As the team prepares to host Chisholm in another exhibition game Friday night before resuming their NorWOSSA schedule next Tuesday (Dec. 4) in Dryden, Edwards admitted there’s still a “thousand things to work on.”
“We think we will be successful but it’s just been a case of two steps forward, one step back,” he remarked.
The black-and-gold will play their league home-opener Dec. 7-8 against Red Lake.
