It was a tough weekend for the Muskie boys’ hockey team at Shattuck St. Mary’s prep school.
The team began Friday’s game with just eight forwards (several players were serving suspensions) and that number was reduced to seven (even with Ryan McDowall jumping up from defence) when Devin Ball went down with a finger injury.
The under-manned squad ended up falling 4-0 to the Sabres, with Jamison Shortreed on the hook for the loss in goal.
The second game Saturday saw the return of some forward depth, but the score got away from the Muskies in an 8-2 loss.
Mike Jourdain and Zach McCool had the lone Muskie goals while Devon Stromness suffered the loss between the pipes.
Meanwhile, the Muskie girls’ hockey team lost 4-2 to the host Dryden Eagles on Friday night.
Amy Hale led the way with a pair of goals while Morgan Church and Alexis Reid added singles. Kristen Penner and Lauren Krukoski replied for the Muskies.
The black-and-gold also lost to the Eagles last Tuesday (Feb. 3) by a 10-5 score.
Dryden (9-1) clinched the top seed in NorWOSSA with the victory Friday night while Fort High fell to .500 (5-5-0-1).
The Muskie girls next play this Friday (Feb. 13) in Kenora.
