Muskies swept by Broncos

The four Muskie court teams, who close out their regular seasons today against the visiting Dryden Eagles, were swept by the host Kenora Broncos on Tuesday.
Muskie senior boys’ volleyball team lost their best-of-five match 3-1, winning the first set 25-13 but then losing the next three by scores of 25-9, 25-23, and 25-20.
The junior boys were swept in their match Tuesday, falling by scores of 25-13, 25-16, and 25-20.
The junior boys’ play was disappointing to their coach, who described it as “brutal.”
Meanwhile, the Muskie junior girls’ basketball game on Tuesday against the host Broncos was an exciting affair between two evenly-matched opponents.
Trailing 21-17 in the third quarter, the black-and-gold fought back in the fourth to grab a 26-23 lead.
After the Broncos evened the score on a free throw with two minutes left in regulation time, the Muskies played hard defence to send the game to a four-minute overtime.
While the Muskies scored first in the extra session, the host Broncos reeled off six points to earn a 32-29 victory.
Lauren Gurski led Fort High with 18 points.
The Muskie senior girls’ basketball team also lost Tuesday in Kenora, dropping a 28-21 decision to the host Broncos after being tied 10-10 at halftime.
Alyssa Holliday led the Muskies with nine points.
