Muskies swept

With Thanksgiving weekend looming, the Muskie court teams were just thankful to finally get out of Dryden yesterday.
The Eagles were feeling neither festive nor hospitable as they swept all four matches against their Muskie visitors.
The junior girls’ basketball team (0-5) came the closest to salvaging the day, almost winning their first game of the season before succumbing 29-27 to Dryden.
Jessica Woodgate led the Muskies with nine points, while Janelle Williamson had eight and Alyssa Holliday netted six.
A short-staffed senior girls’ squad (4-1) suffered their first sour note of the season as the Eagles pounded the Muskies 59-41.
Laura Busch had nine points to pace Fort High, who brought only nine players to Dryden with the absence of the team’s leading scorer, Carley McCormick, and firstyear point guard Rebecca Cornell due to university visiting commitments.
Ashley Whalen added eight while Stephanie “Mouse” Mattson had seven in a losing cause.
The Muskie junior boys’ volleyball squad (1-4) couldn’t follow up their first win of the season with more success as Dryden took a 3- 1 decision.
Game scores were 25-13, 25- 20, 23-25, and 25-19.
And in senior boys’ volleyball action, the Muskies (0-5) continued their difficult season with a 3- 0 loss to the Eagles. Game scores were 25-14, 25-16, and 25-20.
The Muskie court squads will have next week off, not returning to NorWOSSA action Oct. 21 in Kenora.
