Muskies sweep Red Lake

The Muskie boys’ and girls’ hockey teams both swept their two-games series against the Red Lake Rams over the weekend.
The boys blanked the Rams 5-0 on Friday night, then cruised to a 9-0 shellacking on Saturday afternoon.
Brett Meyers and Tyson Romyn each netted first-period goals Friday night. Josh Sigurdson hit the twine halfway through the second period, followed by Brian White’s goal that made it 4-0 heading into the third.
Sigurdson tallied the lone goal of the final period.
On Saturday, the black-and-gold jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by White, Lucas Romaniuk, and Brock Benjamin.
Benjamin added his second of the game with just over a minute left in the second period.
Then it was all Fort High in the third period. Tyler Miller netted a natural hat-trick while Benjamin added another goal for his hat trick. Matt Redford rounded out the scoring.
Meanwhile, the Muskie girls also enjoyed a very successful weekend in Red Lake, beating the host Rams 7-1 on Friday night and then 8-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Sarah O’Sullivan led the attack on Friday night with a pair of goals. Cortney Caldwell, Danielle O’Sullivan, Miranda Kellar, Carly Holt, and Deanna Saunders also tallied.
Holt and Caldwell each tallied twice on Saturday, with Kailey Curtis, Taylor Meyers, Lauren Krukoski, and Hannah Firth adding singles.
The Muskie boys resume NorWOSSA action tomorrow in Dryden starting at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, the girls will host Baudette in an exhibition battle tomorrow night at the Ice for Kids Arena.
The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
