Muskies stumble in semi-finals

The chances were many, but the goals hard to come by, as the Muskie boys’ hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Oak Park Raiders on Saturday in the semi-finals of the John Taylor Piper Classic in Winnipeg.
After dominating play in a scoreless first period, the Muskies fell behind 2-0 after two and then trailed 3-0 early in the third before David Pierce hit the twine with 5:31 to play.
But that was as close as the Muskies could get as the Raiders netted one more to earn a berth in the tourney final.
The black-and-gold had claimed three-straight victories to finish first in Pool ‘A,’ starting with a 2-1 win over Stonewall on Thursday.
Steve Sus tallied both goals while Jason Green earned the win in goal.
Then on Friday, Matt Gamsby backstopped the Muskies to a 5-1 win over the Sisler Spartans, with Sus again scoring twice while Kurtis Wepruk, Terry Kellar, and Mike Niskala added singles.
The Muskies then rounded out their perfect record in pool play with a 6-2 win over the Tec Voc Hornets on Friday night.
Sus was the offensive hero once again with yet another two-goal outing, with Greg Flewelling, Brock Benjamin, Tyler Miller, and Pierce also scoring.
Rookie Cody Wood started in goal and turned in a solid performance between the pipes.
Kellar was named to the tournament all-star team.
