Muskies struggle in Dryden

Staff

Players on the Muskie court teams hope their final exams go better than their final NorWOSSA test before their week-long break.
The Dryden Eagles posted three wins in four match-ups yesterday against Fort High.
The junior girls’ volleyball squad salvaged the day with a 3-1 victory (25-14, 25-21, 18-25, and 26-24) over the Eagles (3-2).
More importantly, the Muskies (6-0) clinched first place with the win and earned a bye to the NorWOSSA final Feb. 20 in Dryden.
It could have been the same story for the Muskie senior boys’ basketball team.
But Fort High (5-1) missed a chance to lock down first place by losing 68-48 to Dryden (3-2).
Meanwhile, it was the same old frustrations for the other two Muskie teams.
The senior girls’ volleyball team (3-3) couldn’t follow up a tournament victory over Dryden at the Kenora Winter Invitational two weekends ago, losing 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-23) to the Eagles (5-0).
Fort High has lost all three regular-season meetings with Dryden so far.
And close but no cigar was the theme for the junior basketball boys’ squad as Fort High (0-6) remained winless following a tight 54-48 loss to the Eagles (5-0).
The junior boys next head to Kenora for a tourney Jan. 30-31.
Then all four teams return to NorWOSSA action Feb. 5 against the host Kenora Broncos.
The Muskies will close their regular-season schedule here Feb. 10 against Dryden.
