The Muskie boys’ hockey team extended their winning streak to 13 games to start this season with a pair of NorWOSSA victories over the weekend.
The black-and-gold, now 6-0 in league play, earned a 3-0 shutout over the Red Lake Rams (1-4) on Friday night before moving on to Dryden (3-2) and beating the Eagles 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Muskie defenceman Brian Glavish broke the scoreless tie against the Rams late in the second period, tallying an unassisted marker to give Fort High a 1-0 lead heading into the final 20 minutes of play.
Fort High sealed the win with a pair of last-minute goals. Matt McLellan scored with 52 seconds left, assisted by Kyle Turgeon and Joe Basaraba.
Any hopes of a Rams’ comeback were dashed just 11 seconds later when Cody McCool scored after receiving a pass from Patrick Bobczynski to cement the victory.
On Saturday, the black-and-gold found themselves trailing the Dryden Eagles by a goal after one period of play.
The Muskies tied the game courtesy of a George Halverson goal early in the second period. Taylor Jorgenson and captain Ryan Witherspoon each assisted.
The Eagles regained the lead less than three minutes later, but a late goal from Blake Wepruk, assisted by Matt DePiero and Matt Hebert, tied the score at 2-2 heading into the second intermission.
The black-and-gold took their first lead of the game midway through the third on a goal by Jorgenson—his second point of the game. Mike McCaig and Witherspoon picked up the assists.
The Muskies got an insurance goal from Basaraba with 6:35 to go, assisted by Zach McCool and Witherspoon, before Hebert iced the victory with an unassisted goal.
The Muskies return to action tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. when those same Eagles come to town.
