It was a day of mixed results for the Muskie court sport teams against the host Sioux Lookout Warriors yesterday in NorWOSSA action.
Both girls’ basketball teams came away victorious while the boys’ volleyball squads both suffered losses.
The junior hoopsters improved to a league-best 5-0 with a 47-37 win over the Warriors (0-5).
Ayiana Gagne netted a season-high 16 points to lead the black-and-gold offensively while Heaven States chipped in with nine.
Anna Gagne and Joyce Wu netted six points each with Monika Ruppenstein potting four and Serena Teeple, Emily Fitzgerald, and Emma Yerxa all adding a basket.
Bella Ward, Grace Pestnick, and Jamie Spencer each scored eight points to pace the Muskie seniors (4-1) to a 52-13 romp over Sioux Lookout (0-5).
Keisha DeBungie chipped in with seven points while Simone Payne added six and Janissa Judson had five.
Joanna Empey and Rachel Anderson both potted four points while Aurora Hutton added a basket to round out the offence.
It was a much different story in boys’ volleyball action, as the Muskie juniors (3-2) suffered their second loss of the season with a hard-fought 2-1 loss to the unbeaten Warriors (5-0).
The set scores were 25-21, 21-25, and 23-25.
And the Muskie seniors also fell by a 2-1 count to the Warriors (1-4) to see their league record fall to 1-4.
All four Muskie court sport teams were slated to resume NorWOSSA action this afternoon when they welcomed the Dryden Eagles to Fort High, with the outcomes not known as of press time.
The senior girls’ basketball and junior boys’ volleyball games start at 4 p.m., with the junior girls’ basketball and senior boys’ volleyball contests to follow at 5:30.
