Despite little co-operation from Mother Nature, NorWOSSA soccer avoided a rain-out and completed Week 2 action yesterday in Dryden.
Both Muskie teams split a pair of games with their league rivals.
The boys trounced the host Eagles 6-1 on the strength of two goals from Mitch Cain, along with singles by Mason McKay, Anniss Seid, Jon Sinclair, and Justin Bujold.
But the black-and-gold (1-3) couldn’t carry that momentum against top-seeded Kenora, falling to the Broncos for the fourth-straight time by a 2-0 score.
The Muskies have yet to score on the Broncos in their four meetings so far this season.
The Broncos (3-0-1) battled the Eagles (1-2-1) to a 2-2 draw in the other boys’ match yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Muskie girls suffered their first defeat of the NorWOSSA season with a 2-0 whitewash at the hands of the Eagles.
Maddison Kluke and Lauren Shoguchi were the goal scorers.
But Fort High rebounded with a 3-0 win over the Broncos, improving to a league-best 3-1.
Courtney Roach, Jolene Stahn, and Paula Vangel netted the goals.
The Broncos and Eagles (both 1-2-1) tied 0-0 in the other girls’ game on the day.
The final week of NorWOSSA regular-season play goes next Wednesday in Kenora, with Fort Frances to host the playoffs the following Wednesday (May 27).
