Muskies shut down by Spartans

A well-prepared Sisler Spartans team shut down the Muskie offence here Friday afternoon to claim a 22-8 win in Winnipeg High School Football League action.
Timely offence of their own secured the win in the fourth quarter.
Shortly after the Muskies had clawed back with an Adam McTavish touchdown run to cut the lead to 14-8, the Spartans got a 75-yard running play from Chris Morgan on second-and-long to take the wind out of the black-and-gold’s sails.
They made the two-point conversion after the ball was tipped in the end zone by several players.
Jock Gemmell threw an interception on their next offensive series and then the Spartans used smart clock management to preserve the lead.
“They came out and made the big plays. We had the situation where we wanted it, wind to our backs, a second and long on their 30, and we just couldn’t make the tackles,” said Muskie head coach Bob Swing.
McTavish scored the Muskies only point in the second quarter after a missed field goal to find themselves down 7-1 at the half.
The Muskies (3-3) will get a rematch against Sisler (4-2) at Winnipeg Stadium this Friday at 4 p.m.
Tickets for that game and the Muskies’ quarter-final contest on Oct. 27 (also at the Stadium), which cost $2 each, are available at the high school’s main office and through the student council starting today.
While tickets will be made available at the Stadium on the respective game days, proceeds from the batches sold here will go directly to the Muskie football team.
