For one game, anyway, the Muskie girls’ hockey team looked like it is ready to persevere through its latest roster shake-up.
Amy Penner had five points in Fort High’s 15-1 romp over the Kenora Broncos yesterday at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The Muskies lead 4-1 after the first and 8-1 through two against a Broncos’ team that sported only 11 skaters in its lineup.
The black-and-gold are down to nine forwards with the loss of Grade 12 player Jessica Coran, who had an emergency appendectomy on Saturday in Kenora and is out for the rest of the season.
Claire Sandelovich, meanwhile, is no longer on the roster (undisclosed).
“I told our younger players before the game it’s time for them to get rolling and step up,” said Muskie head coach Scott Clendenning.
“They’ve got 40 games under their belts and they need to start playing like it,” he stressed.
Annalise Hayes and Lauren Hamilton each had two goals and two assists for the Muskies (9-2) while Emma Noga had four assists.
Rylee Redford, Kaily Greengrass, and Janelle Kaemingh also had two goals apiece, with singles going to Taylor Croswell, Sam McKinnon, and Avery Cates.
Kate Parsons earned the win in goal.
Keesha Hopkins was forced to endure the entire onslaught between the pipes for Kenora as the Broncos had no back-up goalie on the bench.
The Muskies next will host the Dryden Eagles on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at the IFK Arena.
