Muskies rally to defeat Falls

The Muskie boys’ hockey team battled back from a three-goal deficit to beat the host International Falls Broncos 4-3 in an exhibition game Friday night.
“It was a very intense, emotional game,” said Muskie head coach Shane Bliss. “We needed a game like this to get revved up for the playoffs and OFSAA.
“The boys have to get used to playing with emotion and at the same time keeping their emotions in check,” he remarked.
The Broncos lead 1-0 after the first period, then added two more goals in the second.
The Muskies had a power-play goal waved off because the referee indicated he thought the Broncos had touched the puck on a delayed penalty. But the black-and-gold did benefit from the subsequent 5-on-3 power play.
Sean Councillor, who recently joined the team to bolster the defence after the loss of Danny Chapman, bounced a shot in off Brock Benjamin at 8:48 of the second to make it 3-1.
Then on the ensuing 5-on-4 power play, Matt Redford tallied to pull the Muskies within one. And just 29 seconds later, Scott McFayden scored the game-tying goal.
Tyler Miller notched the game-winner at the 4:30 mark of the third when he wristed a shot top shelf.
The Muskies play their final NorWOSSA regular-season game here tomorrow (Feb. 21) against the Kenora Broncos. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. in the Ice for Kids Arena.
The playoffs begin this Friday (Feb. 24).
