Muskies open play with tie

The fourth-ranked Muskies erased a three-goal deficit to earn a 3-3 tie with the 13th-seeded Orangeville Bears this morning to open play at the all-Ontario boys’ hockey championship in London.
Despite outshooting the Bears 7-5 in the first period, the black-and-gold found themselves trailing 2-0 at intermission.
Orangeville then added another goal early in the second before the Muskies began to storm back.
David Pierce, assisted by Steven Sus and Alex McQuarrie, started the comeback at 7:01 of the second, then Sus netted one on a wrist shot with 3:11 left in the period.
Jordan Bale and McQuarrie drew assists.
Brian White then tallied the tying goal in the third, assisted by Tyler Miller and Mike Niskala.
The Muskies almost got the game-winner on a power play in the dying seconds, but Sus just missed burying the puck top shelf.
Jason Green stopped 12 shots in goal for the Muskies.
Fort High—playing in Pool ‘D’—resumed action at 1:45 (CST) this afternoon against the 12th-ranked Leaside Lancers (Toronto). The outcome was not known by press time.
The Muskies then wrap up pool play tomorrow with a pair of games, meeting the 20th-ranked Fr. John Redmond Redhawks at 1:15 (CST) and then fifth-seeded Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 7:30 p.m. (CST).
The top two teams from each pool advance to the quarter-finals, which get underway Friday afternoon.
The Muskies left for OFSAA on Sunday and held practiced twice in London before the tournament started.
