It was nearly a clean sweep for the four Muskie court teams in their NorWOSSA home-openers yesterday at the “Fish Tank.”
The senior girls’ basketball team (2-0) led things off with a 23-20 victory over the visiting Kenora Broncos, led by 11 points from returning senior Kayla Windigo.
A spirited first half saw the Muskies whistled for more fouls (eight) than points as they trailed 8-7 at the break.
But the two teams exploded for a combined 24 points in the second half.
The black-and-gold had extended their lead to as much as 23-13 with just minutes left in the game, but the Broncos showed a lot of resiliency in getting inches within tying the game with a missed three-pointer in the dying seconds.
The junior girls, meanwhile, also improved to 2-0 with a 27-12 lashing of the visitors.
Rookie Alanna Walsh led all Muskie shooters with eight points.
On the volleyball court, meanwhile, the Muskie junior boys continued their torrid pace to start the season with a four-set victory over the Broncos (25-14, 16-25, 25-14, and 25-12).
The seniors didn’t fare as well, however, dropping to 0-2 on the season with a straight-set loss by scores of 20-25, 24-26, and 20-25.
The teams don’t return to NorWOSSA action until next Tuesday (Oct. 6) in Dryden.
