Muskies lose

The Muskie boys’ hockey team showed signs of a comeback in the second period last night, but then the Baudette Bears opened the floodgates en route to a convincing 13-3 win in exhibition action there.
Muskie defenceman Kyle McTavish scored two quick goals late in the first and early in the second to cut the deficit to 5-3.
But the Bears were relentless after that, scoring eight unanswered goals over the next 28 minutes.
Eric Mosbeck scored the Muskies’ only other goal in the first.
The loss, which came on the heels of a 7-0 drubbing by the International Falls Broncos there on Friday night, dropped the black-and-gold’s exhibition record against Minnesota high schools to 1-3.
Their only win was a 7-4 triumph over Chisholm here last month.
And the road will get much tougher as the Muskies venture to Duluth next weekend to play in the Hilltopper Classic.
“The American teams are very quick and handle the puck very well. It’s been one American team after the other,” said Muskie head coach Glen Edwards.
“The team is a bit down right now, no doubt about.”
In girls’ action, team captain Jen Caul scored two goals to earn the Muskies a 2-2 tie with Eveleth in exhibition action here Saturday.
“The girls came out of the gate a little slow,” said head coach Pat Dittaro. “But they came on strong.”
The Muskies will travel to Minneapolis for a tournament Dec. 26-28.
