Muskies lose opening game

The Muskies lost 6-0 to third-ranked St. Mary’s (Woodstock) this morning in their first game at the OFSAA girls’ ‘A’/‘AA’ soccer championship.
The Muskies—ranked 11th—were to play again this afternoon at 3 p.m. (EST) against Jean Vanier Catholic High School, who beat Timmins High and Vocational School 5-0 this morning.
The black-and-gold will wrap up play in Pool ‘C’ tomorrow at 11 a.m. (EST) against Timmins.
The top two teams from each pool will advance to the quarter-finals, which will be played tomorrow afternoon, with the semi-finals and finals on Saturday.
Top-seeded Char-Lan District High School (Williamstown) lost their first game of the tournament 2-1 to ninth-seed College Notre-Dame Alouettes (Sudbury) this morning in Pool ‘A’ play.
Fourth-ranked St. Ignatius (Thunder Bay), who beat the Muskies 1-0 here Saturday to capture the NWOSSAA gold medal, won 2-0 this morning against Chippewa Secondary School in Pool ‘D’ action.
