Muskies lose opener in Duluth

The Muskie boys’ hockey team lost 3-2 to the Hudson Raiders (Wisconsin) yesterday in their opening game at the Marshall Hilltoppers’ tournament in Duluth.
Zach McCool and Joe Basaraba tallied for the black-and-gold while goalie David Moen was saddled with the loss.
The Muskies were looking to pick up their first win when they squared off against Providence this afternoon (the outcome was not available by press time).
The black-and-gold were coming off a hard-fought 4-1 victory over the Dryden Eagles on Friday night at the Ice for Kids Arena in their final NorWOSSA game before the holiday break.
Matt McLellan, George Halverson, Ryan Witherspoon, and Mitch Green all scored in that one while Moen earned the win between the pipes.
The win gave the Muskies a perfect 8-0 record in NorWOSSA play and are three points ahead of second-place Dryden with two games in hand.
In other Muskie action, the girls’ team earned their first-ever win in Kenora courtesy a 6-5 victory over the Broncos on Friday.
Lauren Krukoski led the charge offensively with four goals. Cortney Caldwell and Kailey Curtis netted the other two goals.
The Muskie girls see their next game action Jan. 5 when they host Babbitt at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
