Muskies improve despite defeat

The Muskie football team has its bite back.
Despite a 33-13 loss to the Maples Marauders in Winnipeg yesterday to fall to 0-4 on the WHSFL season, the black-and-gold showed plenty of promise just one game removed from a forfeit loss to River East.
“Couldn’t be happier with the way the boys played,” defensive co-ordinator Bob Whitburn said.
“The new guys who started three nights ago were a phenomenal help.
“If these kids stick with it and we get another week of practice under their belts, things will start coming around,” he added.
Another positive step for the Muskies was the fact they got on the scoreboard for the first time this season with a pair of touchdowns.
Tyler Abma ran one in while Brad McDonald caught one through the air.
And despite giving up 33 points, the Muskies had plenty of big plays and stops on the defensive side of the ball.
“Their points were all on big, long plays,” Whitburn noted. “We were shutting them down fairly regularly, but we were weak on our outside, the one side, and they picked up on that.
“We [caused] three or four turnovers, and another three or four in the second half,” he added.
Fort High will host the Miles Mac Buckeyes next Friday (Oct. 9) at 3 p.m., who were 0-3 going into their game with the Kenora Broncos (2-1) this afternoon.
