The Muskie boys’ and girls’ hockey teams will try to send their northern NorWOSSA opponents up the creek in a two-rink doubleheader here tonight.
The boys will face the Red Lake Rams at 7:30 p.m. in the Ice for Kids Arena while the girls square off with the Rams at the same time over in the ’52 Canadians Arena.
The Muskie girls are returning to league action for the first time since suffering a 9-0 defeat at the hands of the Kenora Broncos on Nov. 19.
The squad is 0-3 in NorWOSSA play so far this season, and next will host the Broncos this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
Meanwhile, it’s the beginning of a new era for the Muskie boys’ team as they play their first NorWOSSA game without former head coach Glen Edwards behind the bench.
As first reported in Wednesday’s Times, Edwards resigned abruptly Tuesday morning in the midst of his 23rd season with the black-and-gold—the last five as head coach.
Assistant coaches Ken Christiansen and Shane Bliss were in charge for the Muskies’ 5-0 exhibition win over the Chisholm Blue Streaks here Tuesday night, and will share the coaching duties for the rest of the season.
The boys also will clash with the Red Lake Rams tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena, then will continue their homestand Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against the Kenora Broncos at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
The black-and-gold lead the NorWOSSA standings with a 5-0 record, outscoring their opponents 80-7 so far this season.
