Muskies host Dryden tonight

The front-running Dryden Eagles will be in town tonight to face the Muskie boys’ hockey team, which currently sits in second place in NorWOSSA with the regular season winding down.
Game time is set for 7:15 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
The Eagles sport an impressive 12-1-1-1 mark coming into tonight’s game, although their lone loss did come at the hands of the Muskies (9-4-0-1) back in late November.
“With [the Muskies], you never know which team is going to show up and our record proves that,” head coach Shane Bliss said after Fort High’s 3-2 exhibition win over the host International Falls Broncos last Thursday night.
“One day they come and play, but the next day they forget the lessons learned,” he added.
After tonight’s game, which also is “parents’ night,” the Muskies will have only three left before the playoffs—and all three are on the road.
The black-and-gold will have a rematch with the Dryden Eagles on Thursday, then face Red Lake on Friday and Kenora on Monday (Feb. 21).
Meanwhile, the Muskie girls’ hockey team will be gunning for their first NorWOSSA win tonight when they host the second-place Dryden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. in the ’52 Canadians Arena.
But while the black-and-gold are winless in league play so far, the team has done well in exhibition action all season, including a pair of dominating wins in Red Lake over the weekend.
In their first game last Friday the black-and-gold shut out the Rams by a score of 9-0 with goals coming from Rebecca Witherspoon, Sarah O’Sullivan, Jessica Barker each had two goals Friday night as the Muskies cruised to a 9-0 win over the Rams.
Carly Holt, Deanna Saunders, and Hannah Firth added singles, S. O’Sullivan (two), Mackenzie Caul (two), and Cortney Caldwell drawing assists.
Then things went even better Saturday as the Muskies romped to a 14-0 shutout over Red Lake led by hat tricks by Firth and Holt.
Danielle O’Sullivan and Saunders added a pair of goals each, with Miranda Kellar, Caul, and Caldwell also scoring.
Assists went to S. O’Sullivan (two), Kristen Roehrig, Caul, Barker, D. O’Sullivan, Firth, and Holt.
After tonight, the girls’ team will have two games left in their regular season—one Thursday night in Dryden and the other Monday night in Kenora.
The squad also has scheduled a return trip to Red Lake for another exhibition game this Friday night.
