The Muskie boys’ hockey team rebounded from their worst performance of the season here last Tuesday against the Ely Timberwolves to post a 3-0 shutout in Red Lake Falls, Mn. on Friday night.
After a scoreless first period, George Halverson netted his 22nd goal of the season on a power play in the second period. Kyle Turgeon and Joe Basaraba drew assists.
The Muskies made it 2-0 minutes later when Basaraba notched his 14th goal of the year, assisted by Brian Glavish and Mike McCaig.
The black-and-gold then sealed the victory in the third period when Glavish scored seconds after a Muskie power-play had expired.
Turgeon assisted for his second point of the night.
David Moen earned the shutout in goal.
Meanwhile, the Muskie girls’ team scored late in the third period to earn a 1-1 tie against the Dryden Eagles in NorWOSSA action here Friday night.
Lauren Krukoski found captain Carly Holt with a behind-the-back pass to set up the game-tying marker.
Holt made no mistake converting the scoring chance, beating the Dryden goalie with a low shot to the stick side.
Muskie goalie Katie Stearns played a pivotal role in helping the black-and-gold earn a point, stopping more than 40 Dryden shots.
The Muskies (1-2-1) currently are second in the NorWOSSA standings with three points. The Eagles (3-1-1) led the way with four points.
Both squads return to the ice here tomorrow (Dec. 12) when they face International Falls.
The girls kick off the action at 5:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena, followed by the boys’ game at 7:30 p.m.
