The Muskie senior girls’ volleyball team will play four matches Wednesday as the all-Ontario ‘AA’ championship gets underway in Sault Ste. Marie.
Seeded 17th out of the 17 teams at OFSAA, the black-and-gold will play in ‘Pool A’–which is made up of five teams instead of four, including top-ranked Chatham-Kent.
The Muskies will open pool play Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. (EST) against fifth-ranked Widdifield, then will hit the court again at 11 a.m. versus 13th-ranked Sainte Marie.
They’re back in action at 1:30 p.m. against Chatham-Kent, then wrap up pool play at 5:15 p.m. versus 12th-ranked Cayuga.
If the Muskies finish first or second in their pool, they’ll advance to the championship quarter-finals Thursday at 10 a.m. against either the first or second-place team from ‘Pool B.’
If they finish third, they’ll advance to the consolation quarter-finals Thursday at 9 a.m. against the fourth-place team from ‘Pool B.’
If not, the fourth and fifth-place teams after pool play will square off in a playoff Thursday at 8 a.m., with the winner advancing to the consolation quarter-finals against the third-place team from ‘Pool B.’
The loser is eliminated from further contention.
Action will wrap up Thursday with the consolation semi-finals at noon, the championship semi-finals at 1:30 p.m., the consolation final at 3 p.m., the bronze medal game at 5 p.m., and the gold medal showdown at 6:30 p.m. (EST).
Meanwhile, the 11th-ranked Muskie senior boys’ basketball team will kick off action in Timmins on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. (EST) against top-ranked Chatham MacGregor.
If the Muskies win, they’ll next play Thursday at 1:15 p.m. against the loser of the game between sixth-ranked Woodroffe (Ottawa) and 16th-ranked Theriault (Timmins).
If they lose their first game, they’ll hit the court Thursday at 11:30 a.m. against the winner of the Woodroffe-Theriault match.
The quarter-finals are slated Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m., with the semi-finals set for Friday at 10:15 a.m. and noon.
The finals will go later Friday.
