The building was colder than they’re accustomed to, but the Muskie boys’ hockey team still packed plenty of fire in their sticks.
The black-and-gold shrugged off the unheated environment inside the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre to dispose of the Sioux Lookout Warriors by scores of 7-3 on Friday night and 9-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies’ annual trip to the Emo rink made for a much closer confrontation than the last time the two teams met in late November, when Fort Frances (14-3) outscored the Warriors (0-18) by a margin of 35-3 over two games.
Nathan Miller remained the Muskies’ hottest scorer of late, registering a four-point outing in Friday’s victory and then netting a hat trick Saturday.
Steven Sus had a pair of markers Friday, with Miller, Eric Mosbeck, Bryce Witherspoon, Scott Bridgeman, and Terry Kellar adding singles.
Bridgeman helped Miller out Saturday with his own pair of tallies, while Mike Niskala, Sus, Tanner Kaemingh, and Witherspoon chipped in with a goal apiece.
Jason Green picked up the win between the pipes in the opener while Matt Gamsby posted the shutout Saturday.
With their regular-season home schedule now completed, the Muskies look to head into the NorWOSSA semi-finals beginning Feb. 21 on a strong note.
The squad heads to Red Lake to face the Rams for a pair of games this Friday and Saturday, before closing out the regular season with a game next Tuesday (Feb. 18) in Dryden against the Eagles—their likely first-round playoff opponent.
