Muskies get the boot

Staff

Next year begins today for the Muskie football team.
The St. John’s Tigers ended a difficult football season for the black-and-gold with a 40-6 win yesterday in the first round of the WHSFL Bowl playoffs in Winnipeg.
St. John’s now advances on face Kenora in the semi-finals next Thursday after the Broncos dumped the Maples Marauders 42-12 yesterday.
Dougie deBernardeaux provided the only points for the Muskies—returning a missed field goal 110 yards the other way for a touchdown on the final play of the second quarter to make it 28-6.
The Muskies struggled all year to get enough players to come out and competed with roughly 20 players in almost every game.
They ended the season at 0-7 overall in head coach Mike Cuzzolino’s third season at the helm.
It was the team’s first winless campaign since 2009.
