High school football is gearing up for another year, with a call-out to prospective team members.
New and returning players are asked to come out to an Equipment Fitting this Sunday August 21. Players are asked to follow the FFHS Muskie Football Instagram page to book an appointment time.
Players will enter through the doors on the west side of the school, and should come dressed in a t-shirt and athletic shorts.
Returning players are asked to bring their 2021 playbook binders.
Players who are not available this Sunday will be fitted for equipment when they attend their first practice.
Practices will start Monday August 22. Practices will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from August 22 to September 2, with a team meeting nightly from 8:10 to 8:30 p.m.
A pre-season Jamboree game will be played against Kenora on Wednesday August 31.
Once school resumes on September 6, practices will be held from 3:30 – 6 p.m. on week nights.
The coaching staff is looking forward to taking the NORWOSSA Championship Muskies back to Division 3 in the Winnipeg High School League, with a seven-game schedule.
Muskie Head Coach Lou Gauthier expects at least 20 players to return from the 2021 championship team, though 17 of the 24 players who started more than half the games in 2021 have graduated. The coaches expect several new players to earn starting roles this season.
Coach Gauthier will be joined by the coaching team of Offensive Coordinator Vic Davis and Assistant Coaches Greg Allan, Colten Allen, Graham Anderson, Matt Armstrong, Shane Beckett, Scott Fawcett, and Jesse Marschalk.
