Muskies earn split

The Muskies junior boys’ basketball team is hard to keep down—bouncing back from a tough 43-41 loss to Kildonan-East Collegiate (Winnipeg) in the final of a tournament in Kenora last weekend to win their next two games.
After edging Baudette 40-39 in exhibition play here Monday, the junior hoopsters pummelled host Kenora 59-35 yesterday to improve to 6-0 in NorWOSSA play.
But the news wasn’t as good for the Muskie senior boys’ basketball squad, which fell from the ranks of the undefeated with a 49-41 setback to the Broncos yesterday.
Meanwhile, Fort High’s girls’ volleyball teams also came away with a split yesterday in Kenora.
The juniors rebounded from a 25-19 loss in the opening set to reel off three-straight wins, by scores of 25-23, 25-23, and 25-13, to take the best-of-five match 3-1.
The win improved the juniors to 2-4 on the NorWOSSA season.
A valiant comeback by the seniors fell short, however.
The squad lost the first two sets 25-20 and 25-17, then fought back to take the next two 25-23 and 25-11.
But after jumping out to a 10-8 lead in the fifth-and-deciding set, the Broncos exploded for seven-straight points to win the match 3-2.
The loss dropped the seniors to 2-4.
All four court teams return to NorWOSSA action this coming Tuesday (Feb. 9) when the Dryden Eagles come to town.
Then they’ll wrap up the regular season next Thursday (Feb. 11) with another road trip to Kenora.
