The Muskie hockey program picked up a pair of exhibition victories last night—albeit in dramatically different fashions.
The boys crushed the host Ely Timberwolves 8-0 while the girls rallied in the third period for a 3-2 win over the Lake of the Woods-Baudette Bears in Rainy River.
Matt Hebert led the charge offensively against the Timberwolves, scoring four goals in the lopsided victory.
The four markers doubled Hebert’s goal-scoring total for the season.
Kyle Turgeon, meanwhile, added a pair of goals—his 17th and 18th of the campaign—while George Halverson and Riley Caul added singles.
Richard Wieringa earned the shutout between the pipes.
In the girls’ game, Carly Holt and Lauren Krukoski each netted third-period goals to give the black-and-gold their fourth-straight win—matching the Muskies’ longest streak of the season.
Carlee Bosma scored her first goal of the season in the first period, with Sara Trendiak earning the win in net.
Both Muskie squads resume NorWOSSA action tonight.
The boys are in Red Lake for the first of back-to-back games against the Rams while the girls will host the Dryden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
They girls then will host the Eveleth Golden Bears on Saturday at 5 p.m. in exhibition action.
Then on Tuesday (Jan. 16), the Muskies will host the Kenora Broncos in NorWOSSA action. The girls take to the ice at 7:15 p.m., with the boys’ game starting at 7:30.
