Muskies down Falls Broncos

The Muskies hung on for a hard-fought 4-2 victory over the visiting International Falls Broncos last night, snapping a four-game losing streak against their arch-rivals from across the river. c
Steve Keesic was the offensive star in round one of the “Battle of Borderland,” pacing the black-and-gold with three goals before a sold-out, boisterous crowd at Memorial Arena.
The Muskies grabbed a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by Keesic and David Lloyd, then made it 3-0 on Keesic’s eighth goal of the season with 2:47 left in the second frame.
But the Broncos refused to quit, cutting into the lead at 2:51 of the final stanza when Ryan Hilfer beat Muskie goaltender Blake Carlson.
The Muskies regained their three-goal bulge with 7:51 to play when Keesic completed his hat trick.
The Broncos once again pulled to within a pair when Kalan Wagner netted a power-play goal with 5:37 to go but that was as close as they could get.
The Muskies next play in Chisholm on Friday, then host Baudette on Dec. 10.
They don’t resume NorWOSSA action until Tuesday, Dec. 21 when the Dryden Eagles fly into town.
