In recent tournaments, Muskie goals have been hard to come by at times.
But that certainly wasn’t the case last weekend in NorWOSSA action as the black-and-gold romped to 14-0 and 17-0 wins over the visiting Sioux Lookout Warriors.
On Friday night at the Memorial Sports Centre, veteran defenceman Jake Esselink and centre Greg Flewelling each netted hat tricks to lead the offensive outburst.
Steve Sus added a pair while Mark Kellar, Jordan Bale, Josh Sigurdson, Terry Kellar, Tyler Miller, and Kurtis Wepruk had singles.
Brock Benjamin and David Pierce each picked up a pair of assists, with helpers also going to Brian White, Lucas Romaniuk, Justin Larson, Matt Redford, Mark Kellar, and Sigurdson.
Cody Wood earned the shutout in goal.
Then on Saturday afternoon in Emo, the Muskies jumped out quickly with six first-period goals—two from Pierce and singles from Romaniuk, White, Miller, and Mark Kellar—to complete the easy sweep of the Warriors.
The second frame yielded eight more goals, with Esselink, Miller, Pierce, White, Larson, Benjamin, Terry Kellar, and Mark Kellar all finding the mark.
Kyle McTavish, Sigurdson, and Miller each had two assists in the period while Miller, Sus, and Terry Kellar earned single assists.
The Muskies then closed out the scoring with three goals in the third from Mark Kellar (Pierce and Larson), Terry Kellar (Sus), and Flewelling (Bale).
Mat Gamsby picked up the win in goal.
The Muskies’ next travel to Chisolm on Thursday night to face the Bluestreaks in exhibition action.
Then they’ll close out the NorWOSSA schedule at home Tuesday night (Feb. 17) against the Dryden Eagles and Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 24) against the fourth-place Kenora Broncos.
The black-and-gold need just two points to clinch first place and home-ice advantage throughout the league playoffs.
