The Muskie football team earned a berth in the Winnipeg High School Football League playoffs courtesy of Friday afternoon’s 43-7 road rout over Daniel Mac.
Running back Terry Carmody led the offensive onslaught, rushing the ball 21 times for 340 yards and three touchdowns.
Adding to the lustre of his impressive performance was the fact Carmody had four runs of 40 yards or more in just three quarters of action.
Back-up running back Matt Depiero picked up where Carmody left off, rushing for 41 yards and a touchdown on just five carries in the fourth quarter.
Fullback Allen “Gus” Hunsperger capped off dominant performance of the Muskies’ ground attack by rushing for 17 yards and a touchdown on three rare carries.
Complementing the Muskies’ running game was an efficient passing attack.
Quarterback Blake Wepruk showed definite signs of improvement going three for five in pass attempts for 27 yards and a touchdown in just three quarters of playing time.
Back-up pivot Steve Boileau also was effective moving the ball through the air, completing several passes.
Defensively, the Muskies held Daniel Mac scoreless until late in the fourth quarter when they were able to complete a series of passes against the black-and-gold’s second-stringers.
Boileau was particularly dominant, picking off two passes from his regular safety position.
Fort High will close out its regular-season schedule this Friday (Oct. 13) at 3 p.m. in Winnipeg against Oak Park #2.
The Muskies then have a “bye” week before the quarter-finals are held Oct. 26-27.
