The clock has struck midnight on the Muskie football team’s Cinderella WHSFL playoff run.
Fifth-seeded Fort High was dumped 40-7 by the top-ranked and unbeaten Sisler ‘A’ Spartans in the Currie Division semi-finals Friday evening in Winnipeg.
It was the vaunted ground game of the Spartans that proved to the be the difference, with workhorse running back Jayde Erasmo pounding his way to 184 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Nathan Horobetz-Simpson, meanwhile, rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown.
Details on the Muskies’ scoring were not available as of press time today.
Despite the rough loss, it was an impressive season for the Muskies, who had started the campaign not knowing if they would have enough players to even field a team.
But the black-and-gold grew increasingly more competitive as the season wore on, with two-straight victories over Dryden and Tec Voc to conclude the regular season in fifth place with a 3-4 record.
The squad then upset the fourth-seeded St. Norbert Celtics 15-8 in the quarter-finals—Fort High’s first playoff win since joining the WHSFL back in 2001.
The 9-0 Spartans now will take on the Elmwood Giants (8-1) in the Canad Inns Bowl on Wednesday at Canad Inns Stadium to determine the Currie Division champs.
