Muskies bomb Pelican Fells

Forgive the Muskie boys’ hockey team if their arms are a little tired today.
Frequent celebrations were the order of the weekend as the Muskies kicked off the NorWOSSA campaign by routing the Pelican Falls First Nations High School Timberwolves 18-1 on Friday night and 23-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Ice for Kids Arena.
Justin Larson tallied four goals while Nathan Miller had a hat trick and a team-high five points to lead the way Friday for the black-and-gold.
Greg Flewelling, Terry Kellar, Eric Mosbeck, and Mike Niskala each scored a pair in that one while Tanner Kaemingh, Scott Bridgeman, and Steven Sus had singles.
Blake Turtle scored the Timberwolves’ lone goal against Jason Green, who picked up the win in his Muskie debut.
Fellow goalie Matt Gamsby faced even less of a challenge from Pelican Falls on Saturday as the Muskies’ offence got stronger as the game wore on.
The black-and-gold burst out to a 6-0 lead after the opening stanza, then racked up eight goals in the second period before piling on another nine in the third.
Only one Muskie skater failed to register a point in the game, with Kaemingh holding the hottest hand with a four-goal, five-point outing.
Jamie Krukoski notched a hat trick Saturday afternoon while Bryan Chambers, Flewelling, Niskala, Bridgeman, and Sus each scored twice.
Mosbeck, Mark Kellar, David Pollard, Terry Kellar, Larson, and Miller all netted singles.
The Muskies next will take on the defending NorWOSSA champion Dryden Eagles tomorrow night (Nov. 12) at 7:30 p.m. at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
The Muskie girls’ hockey team, whose first game had been scheduled for Friday in Dryden but was postponed, now will begin its season tomorrow (Nov. 12) at 4 p.m. against the Eagles at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
