For the first time in several years, the Muskie football team earned a victory in front of their own fans when they blanked the Tec Voc Hornets 33-0 here Tuesday afternoon.
“We had been getting all of our wins on the road before this game, and I’m not really sure as to why that was,” head coach Chad Canfield said after collecting his first home win since taking charge of the team in 2010.
“For the guys on our team, it’s a good feeling to win in front of their family and friends as there are a lot of them who haven’t been able to come to our away games,” he added.
The Muskie ground attack dominated the Hornets right from the start as Cam Gobeil rushed for three touchdowns while Colton Craig also found the end zone to give Fort High a 30-0 lead at halftime.
“The momentum that we had just kind have continued to build up as the game went on,” Craig noted.
“We wanted to go out there and get some points on the scoreboard right at the start as we felt that would be a key to the game and it would show Tec Voc that we were able to compete,” he reasoned.
Aaron Kellar nailed a 27-yard field goal in the third quarter to round out the scoring.
With the victory, the black-and-gold now sport a 2-2 record in the WHSFL’s Andy Currie ‘A’ Division, which puts them in a tie for third place with the Kenora Broncos (2-2) and Neelin Spartans (2-1).
The Muskies will continue their three-game homestand here next Friday (Oct. 5) at 1 p.m., when they host the Spartans in their annual Homecoming game.
“That’s usually a big game no matter who we play,” Gobeil said.
“We haven’t won one of those games in quite a while so it would be nice to come back here and compete hard once again,” he added.
