Muskies back in action tonight in Mesabi

After an eight-day layoff, the Muskies will be looking to burn off those extra Christmas calories when they travel to Mesabi for a pair of exhibition games.
The black-and-gold will square off against Mesabi East tonight, then take on Austin tomorrow.
While the Muskies are gunning to improve their 1-3 record against American teams, these two games also should help keep them fresh since they don’t resume NorWOSSA action until Jan. 8 in Kenora.
The Muskies will be without the services of defenceman/forward Chris Kellar, who was handed a two-game suspension for his part in a late-game skirmish against the International Falls Broncos there last week.
They also will be without leading scorer Brad Gushulak (knee), forcing them to switch lines for tonight’s game. Captain Chuck Arpin most likely will replace him on the team’s top scoring line with rookies Ross Anderson and Adam McTavish.
Veteran assistant coach Ken Christiansen admitted he knows very little about Mesabi East but added the Muskies will try to play their style of dump-and-chase–most effective when they have two forwards on the puck forechecking.
“We want to go down there and make a good impression,” said Christiansen, who will be behind the bench as head coach for both games while Glen Edwards is on vacation.
“It’s the first time we’ve been invited down there and we don’t want to put on a poor show,” he stressed. “We want to go in there and put on a good show–that’s what we want to do.”
Although Christiansen didn’t want to tip his hand as to who the starting goalie would be tonight, he hinted it may be second-year netminder Mike Glueheisen, who was stellar between the pipes in the 3-2 loss to the Falls last week.
